I am on my lunch break at work and thought I would give you all a quick update.
The last few weeks have been rough for a lot of people out there. I feel very lucky to have made it through hurricane Sandy without any major problems. My heart goes out to those who have lost so much. I cannot even imagine what they are going through.
With all the transportation problems, I was at home for a few days after the hurricane hit. I was sorta stranded in Greenpoint, which is fine because I love it here. Luckily, I had power and I started to demo my new full length. I am very excited about it. So far it is looking like 10 songs and I hope to post some clips soon. I am still in the very early stages and things can change, but I am hoping to have the whole thing properly recorded and released this spring.
I am looking into booking some shows ASAP. If anyone wants to book me, my email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
I have been listening to some really great albums recently and wanted to share them with you:
I was very excited about the Benjamin Gibbard solo album titled Former Lives and it stands up. A really awesome record and I saw him play at The Town Hall in NYC last week and it was wonderful. Another album that is really great is A Shut-In’s Prayer by Advance Base. He was the opener for Benjamin Gibbard and I know him from his Casiotone for the Painfully Alone project. Good live show and good album…get on it! If you are a fan of Grandaddy, their front man Jason Lytle put out his 2nd solo album titled The Department of Disappearance. This album is…Jason Lytle…it is great and if you like his work, you will not be disappointed. I recently picked up The Helio Sequence new album Negotiations. I became a fan of these guys a few years ago and this album is great!
Oh and I revisited By A Thread’s album The Last of the Daydreams recently. This album came out in 1999 and really holds up. This album is so good and it has been a long time since I listened to it.
Ok, that is all for now, come back soon!
Thanks for reading!
Happy Sunday Everyone!
I just posted a brand new video for Onwards and Upwards, He Says, which is the opening track to my latest full length, Via Oxygen. You can find IT along with all my other videos on my YouTube Page. You can also see it below. I shot this video on my iPhone using the 8mm app and then added the music in iMovie on my iMac…what is this an Apple commercial? Enjoy!
So, I just walked in the door of my apartment and continue to have this unsettled, nervous feeling that I haven’t been able to shake for the last few days. The band I played drums in, Earth Science is over. As I was saying, I just walked in the door…I was coming from the studio I had shared with Earth Science for the last few years. I just unpacked my drums and set them up in the studio where they will stay for a while. We just played our last show this past Saturday. The band is disbanding after writing and recording many songs, playing many shows and having a blast doing it. I will miss playing with these guys, playing those songs and all the great times we had together. We decided to stop playing together because one of our guitar players, Dino, is moving with his wife and child to Thailand. He urged us to keep going, but there is no way we could ever replace him. Instead, we are going our separate ways for now.
Now, that feeling I was talking about. I had the same one when I left The Keepaway years ago. I have been playing drums since I was about 9 years old and will never stop, but it is kind of shaking me up not to be playing drums in a band right now. Luckily, I can keep my kit set up in this studio and knock around every once in a while to keep the dust from building.
As you can see from this website, I have been writing and recording songs as Joseph Albert for just over 6 years now and have recently started playing out again. My plan at this moment is to make Joseph Albert my number one music priority. I owe it to myself to play out more, record more and to continue enjoy doing this. Now, you might be thinking, Joe…you have been doing just that all these years. You are right, but I feel the need to declare it for some reason. I have a bunch of fun ideas, songs and other stuff coming down the pipeline, so stay tuned. And knowing me, I might end up playing the drums again soon. And so, on a positive note…I’ll keep this whole thing open-ended.
Music is such a huge part of my life and has been since I was a child and I know I will never stopping creating and appreciating it. I will miss Earth Science, and will never forget how much I loved playing with Dino, Jan, Steve and Kayne.
Thanks for listening, reading and supporting!
The last week has been a really great week in the Joseph Albert camp. That camp is a one man camp and usually pretty lonely…but not this past week. I have to thank Absolutepunk so much for showcasing me in their Free Music Friday series. I received a ton of exposure from there and since then, there has been a constant stream of love on my Bandcamp page. After much tossing and turning about it, I bumped it up from free to no more than $3…sorry. All the albums have been up there for free for over a week.
I also want to thank Pianos for having me play the show last night. It was pretty tough getting up there to play after 2 years of not playing, but the staff there was very helpful. Thanks to all who came out to the show and supported me, it was a blast! I played 7 songs that were a mix of songs off Night Time Astronaut and Via Oxygen. I am looking forward to staying out there and playing more.
I also, also want to thank The Alternative Tone for contacting me and doing an interview, check it out here.
Ok, that is about it for now, but STAY TUNED. I feel good, hope you do too!
Thanks for all the love and support!
Some exciting news for ya…I am playing a show on August 22, 2012 at 7PM in the upstairs lounge at Pianos in NYC. I haven’t played a show in a long time and so this is a Grand Re-Opening of sorts. The last time I played was about 2 years ago? Actually, I’m not sure. At the time I played that show or any other show, I had only released the Inventions EP and since then I have released 2 full length albums titled Night Time Astronaut and most recently Via Oxygen. I am very proud of them and would like to play some songs off them. I never did a proper album release show so this is going to be that…sorta.
Instead of printing up these albums, you can download all them for FREE at my bandcamp page for the next week or so. Did you hear that? All of these albums will be available for FREE starting right now!!! Go get all of them!!!
Thanks for the love and support!!!
Hope to see you all on August 22, 2012!!!
I hope everyone is having a great summer so far!
I wanted to let you know that you can now download my new album titled Via Oxygen on iTunes. Listed below are links to all of my albums on iTunes:

Enjoy! I will be back soon with more news/updates/other stuff…stay tuned!!!
As you can see from the title of this post, my new album Via Oxygen is complete and ready to be consumed by the ears of all of you! I finished recording this album in October of 2011 and it is now May of 2012…where has the album been, you ask? Well, lets just say that busy lives and another music project were there to occupy the time. I can’t complain, I am surrounded by wonderful, talented people who love to help out and get involved. And for that, I am eternally grateful!
I am very excited to bring Via Oxygen to all of you and hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I am aiming to have an album release show sometime this summer. And, being a bit ambitious, I plan on having another album out by early next year. I have a lot of material I am super excited about!
Please check out my LINKS page to see where you can go to hear the album. The album will be available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon and other internet music stores soon.
Special thanks to Kayne for his audio skills and Mike for his artistic skills.
